NAPA FieldInsights Web & Mobile Application

Lead UI/UX Designer | Sketch, Invision, Abstract, Figma

As one of Genuine Part Company’s subsidiaries, NAPA is a main actor in the auto parts aftermarket. NAPA FieldInsights, is an automotive parts field survey tool to gather and analyze market insights. There are two pieces to this project. The first is a mobile app found in the Google Play and Apple Store. The second is a web application that receives and utilizes the data reported from the mobile app.

Overview

The Price Compare team wanted to create a tool and company database portal that allows users to survey and analyze market insights.

The Challenge

Create a tool from the ground up that is quick and efficient for users to report, survey, and analyze.

Business Goals

Create an app for Android & iOS and Web Application to be more competitive in the automotive industry.

The Process

As the sole designer, I was responsible for all UI/UX processes. This includes UX wireframes, high-fidelity UI comps, and handoff to development.

UX Responsibilities

  • Conduct user interviews.

  • Create low-fidelity wireframes.

UI Responsibilities

  • Design high-fidelity UI comps.

  • Utilize, reinforce, and innovate the internal design system.

Understand & Research

With the objective in mind, I sketched out concepts in my mobile ui/ux design notebook.

The Mobile App

Work began shortly after the sketches were reviewed and clarified with the product owners. Nailing down the key functionality and purpose of the app was key.

Part Lists

These are user defined list that are created in the web portal. This is the data that feeds information to the app so users in the field know what stores they are assigned and to report on. Admin users create the list in here through a fluid table where they can easily create and remove additional parts. Alternatively, there is a separate Import List flow users can utilize through an excel template file.

Store Groups

Once the parts list is created, they are then assigned to store groups that are specific to the user and area that they are reporting on.

Reports & Survey Results

This is the data that the app sends the web portal. Admins are able to see how much of the percentage users completed on their store’s group part list. Users are given a new survey question every month in order to improve the user experience and the field processes.

The Final Product & Takeaways

A clean and simple interface that integrates multiple functionalities. I will admit being the sole UI/UX designer on this project had it’s challenges. In the end it was important to capture all of the business requirements up front and interview future users throughout the design process. Ultimately, the business and users were happy and celebrated the launch of this product.
